What I've been up to!

Hey Everybody!

Hope this finds you all doing well! ☺

What an awesome weekend! I had such a blast in Peace River visiting with tons of friends. Friday was a blast at Springfield and TA Norris School! Such a great group of students to sing, talk, and meet with. The presentations felt like complete concerts with their energy and I had so much fun! Can’t wait to go back!!

Being a part of the Fifth annual Peace Region Music Industry Conference and Songwriter’s Workshop as a mentor was an honor. I remember going my first year, co-writing for the first time and networking with so many people I still turn to now. What an inspiring perspective to learn from this year, witnessing so many talented Peace Region writers come together to create new music and share it with the community. I was so proud watching all the groups sing their hearts out on their creations. The energy and family feel that the No Limitz girls who run it have created is incredible. The positive vibes are so contagious and I always look forward to staying connected with the people met through the networking web they have spun. Huge thanks to Dana and Sherry for being the beautiful people that you are, and for bringing so many people together for the love and passion of creating and communicating music.

So what’s next??? Graduation!!!! I’m so excited for next weekend and can’t believe how fast it has come. I’ll be sporting the cap and gown with smily faces on my toes!!! I remember the first day of kindergarten…. So different and yet so much the same as now. I’m so excited for this new chapter but am definitely feeling bittersweet emotions. Although it does feel like it is time, I’m not looking forward to a change in routine that I so much enjoy. And I will miss so many people. SO much.

Have a great week everyone!!

Nashville

Hey Everybody!

What a place. Nashville truly feels like a town of creation and it is inspiring to think that in so many places around this city, creativity is rolling into dreams, and dreams into reality. There is something about walking down the streets of Music Row and Broadway that brings a smile knowing that legends of country music stepped foot in the same place at one time. It’s amazing to think that everywhere around, tomorrow’s gold collection is being thought of, written, recorded, published, turned down, embraced or listened to. I feel so honored to have been able to visit here a few times and write some amazing songs with incredible people. From my perspective, it feels like people here could get discouraged easily, especially having thousands of musical hearts dreaming that same dream, reaching for that same star. However, I feel fortunate to have never met anyone or worked with any in this negative light. People here feel blessed to be doing what they love everyday. To be surrounded by the food that feeds their soul. Pursuing music is a privilege and it feels like a religion. Not because people do it everyday faithfully, but because they believe in music so faithfully. That music should be heard and enjoyed and the togetherness of that feeling is my favorite part of this city. From my experience, the sun shines, and the power of creation is persistent, regardless of what people think.

It has been a phenomenal week just connecting to that creative side with so many wonderful people. It’s been great coming back to write with many familiar co-writers to continue building that relationship, and the songs! Many are fellow Canadians and its so cool spending time with them here. It’s been awesome writing with some new minds too and I look forward to coming back and writing more with them! Co-writers, I’m learning, are so much more than collaborative partners; they are creative souls, who whether you have worked with them before or not, read into you. They work together on a work of art and that can take a great level of understanding and emotion into the other writer’s emotions and values. Its amazing to me to watch music bring strangers together like that, and grow them into instant friendships. I so enjoy this process and am so grateful for all the amazing sessions this week has held.

I’m excited to enjoy the rest of the trip here over the next few days and I can’t wait to share some of these tunes with you!! Sure hope the Easter Bunny is good to you all!!! Happy Easter!!

Have a great weekend!
